BRATISLAVA, May 16 /TASS/. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico remains in a very serious condition following the assassination attempt, said newly elected President Peter Pellegrini after visiting him in the hospital. Pellegrini added that the "next few hours and days" will be crucial for Robert Fico, who is being treated in a hospital in Banská Bystrica.

"The condition of Prime Minister Robert Fico is assessed as very serious. He was on the brink of death. I was only able to speak with him for a few minutes," Pellegrini told reporters.

He added that the "next few hours and days" will be critical for the Prime Minister, who is being treated in a hospital in the city of Banská Bystrica.

According to Pellegrini, their conversation was private.

"Robert Fico felt very tired after speaking for a few sentences," said the newly elected president.

The official called for unity within society amidst disagreements in political views. He stated that, in the history of Slovakia, a line had never been crossed like it was with the assassination attempt on a democratically elected politician.

Pellegrini and the current acting president, Zuzana Čaputová, plan to meet with representatives of all parties and political groups in the coming days.

"It should be noted that the competition between political forces will only take place within a democratic framework, and under no circumstances will hatred spread. In such a case, we will not witness similar tragedies," said the newly elected president.
