The Ga'er performance is the only surviving form of palace singing and dance in Xizang (Tibet). Its music has a free, expansive, and flowing quality, while the dance movements have a distinct, almost sculptural character.
Tashi Tsering performed in the palace dance troupe at Potala Palace as a child, and has dedicated over 70 years to the Ga'er dance. During this time, he has not stopped collecting, recording, and organizing traditional songs and their lyrics.
His greatest wish is that this unique cultural heritage be taken up by the younger generation and preserved for the future.
