The State Museum of Glass and Jewelry in Jablonec nad Nisou has organized the latest edition of the International Glass and Jewelry Triennial, JABLONEC 2026. The five exhibitions focus on current trends in design, art, and industry. Four of the exhibitions opened to visitors on May 15th.

The main exhibition of the triennial showcases the best of what has appeared in the Czech market for utility glass and jewelry over the past three years. Titled "TRENDS. DESIGN. PRODUCTION," visitors can view 150 products from 50 companies, glassworks, brands, and studios from four European countries until September.

In addition to Czech companies, the exhibition features businesses from Germany, Austria, and Slovakia. This is not a presentation of individual pieces or prototypes, but rather a real commercial offering. While curators select the participants, the exhibitors themselves choose the products that represent them.

"The aim is to offer an alternative to the numerous design exhibitions that present only a small, albeit important, part of contemporary Czech glassmaking from a commercial and export perspective," said Petr Nový, the main curator of the project, at a press conference.

imageresize_20260521_121803.jpgHonoring Excellence The best collections will be recognized with awards by a five-member international jury composed of experts from the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and Spain. The medals were created by the Jablonec Higher Vocational School, based on a design by David Matura, who is also the author of the triennial's graphic design. The project partners and the public will also award prizes, with the public able to vote throughout the duration of the exhibition.

"The exhibition's staging was created by the glass designer František Jungvirt, who is making his first major realization of this type. We are very pleased with the imaginative result, which is in pastel tones," said Milada Valečková, the museum's director, complementing Nový.

imageresize_20260521_121742.jpgDon't Miss… In addition to the main exhibition, the museum is also offering exhibitions of BOROSILICATE GLASS and A JOURNEY TO THE STARS. The first of these showcases products from Czech companies that manufacture or process this increasingly popular material in a permanent exhibition. Visitors will also discover artistic and art design objects by Dominika Petrtýlová, Johan Pertl, and Vlastimil Šenkýř, three prominent figures of the emerging generation of glass artists.

The permanent exhibition of Christmas ornaments has been expanded for the triennial with the results of the 2nd International Symposium, which includes three new collections of Christmas ornaments. These were created by designer Veronika Velčovská Jiroušková and the Vánoční ozdoby DUV cooperative from Dvůr Králové nad Labem, Polish artist Kalina Bańka–Kulka and HAN Jičín, designer Martin Jakobsen, and Slezská tvorba Opava.

The project will conclude on October 21st with the REVIZE exhibition, which combines historical jewelry with modern design. Students from five universities in the Czech Republic and abroad have transformed Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewelry from the museum's collection into contemporary fashion accessories. Visitors will be able to see bold prototypes that combine traditional craftsmanship with new materials and the personal stories of the creators.
