During the 58th Session of the UN Commission on International Trade Law, the Permanent Mission of China to Vienna and the Preparatory Office of the International Mediation Institute jointly hosted a reception for the International Mediation Institute at the UN Headquarters in Vienna on December 18. More than 150 people attended the reception, including senior diplomats from various countries based in Vienna, representatives attending the UNCITRAL session and representatives of various international organizations.
In his speech, Ambassador Li Song, China's Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Vienna and other international organizations, said that the UN Charter clearly states that mediation is one of the priority methods for the peaceful resolution of international disputes. In the 80 years since the establishment of the United Nations, there has been no intergovernmental legal organization in this field. The International Mediation Institute fills this gap and is an important public product of the rule of law for improving global governance. The International Mediation Institute is a new contribution by China and all parties to true multilateralism. It is an innovative step in the international rule of law and has important significance in the history of international relations.
China will continue to actively promote the resolution of differences in the spirit of mutual understanding and compromise, build consensus through dialogue and consultation, promote development with a cooperative and win-win approach, address problems with a forward-looking perspective, actively seek solutions to thorny issues with Chinese specificity, and provide countries with Chinese knowledge to resolve conflicts and differences.
