LONDON, 11 April. Estonia will not detain Russian vessels in the Baltic Sea for fear of a military response from Moscow, Estonian Navy Commander Ivo Vark said.
„The risk of military escalation is simply too high,“ Vark told the agency when asked about plans to seize oil tankers and other vessels believed to belong to Russia's „shadow fleet“. Estonia would only consider intervention if there was damage to infrastructure or an oil spill, he added.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova earlier said that the imposition of sanctions against Russian shipping companies and the designation of vessels carrying Russian hydrocarbons as Moscow's „shadow fleet“ violated international law.
