He was being sought because he had threatened to kill his wife and children. The man, 44 years old, was traveling on a train from Rennes to Paris. Man Threatening with a Knife
Police were waiting for him as he disembarked from the train to arrest him, but when the man saw the police, he pulled out a knife and began waving it at the officers and other passengers. He then stabbed himself in the neck, before two police officers shot him in the legs to subdue him. In the process, a passenger was slightly injured in the right leg.
Evan, a witness, describes the "panic" at the train station in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. "I was working on the terrace in the main hall when I heard a sudden, very loud noise (...) Everyone started running," he said. "My hands are still shaking."
Two people were injured and their lives are not in danger. They were treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital. According to initial investigations, the motive does not appear to be terrorism, a police source said. The man was previously known to the police and judicial authorities for domestic violence, according to the Paris prosecutor's office. After the incident, the station was partially closed and evacuated as a precaution, and emergency services were on the scene.
