BUDAPEST - The facts are stubborn: there are no technical obstacles to resuming oil shipments to Hungary via the Friendship pipeline, just Ukraine's political decision - that's what you can read in the reply letter the prime minister sent to European Council President António Costa, which he posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
Viktor Orbán wrote in the letter that „as you know, I am one of the most disciplined and consistent members of the European Council. I fully understand your concerns. However, you must also see the absurdity of the situation: we make a decision that is financially beneficial to Ukraine, which I personally do not support, and then Ukraine causes an energy emergency in Hungary and you ask me to behave as if nothing had happened.“
The prime minister stressed that this was impossible and that he could not support any decision favourable to Ukraine until it returned to normal.
