TEHRAN, 8 March. Iran's Assembly of Experts, responsible for selecting the country's new Supreme Leader, has completed its work and a new leader has been identified, Assembly member Ahmad Alamolhoda said.

„The election of the chief executive has taken place and has been determined. All the rumours that the Assembly of Experts did not decide are complete lies. Everything now depends on the secretary of the Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Hosseini Bushehr, who is obliged to announce the Assembly's decision publicly,“ Mehr news agency quoted him as saying.

The 80-member body has the power to appoint a new Ayatollah. Under Article 111 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic, in the event of the death or incapacity of the Supreme Leader, the experts must appoint a new Supreme Leader as soon as possible.
