Tucker Carlson in the Jack Neel podcast emphasizes the unique power of language and the deadly combination of censorship and public ignorance. He quotes from John's Gospel – "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" – and explains why freedom of speech is at the heart of liberty: "There's a reason why the protection of words is enshrined in our First Amendment. There's a reason why the first step of every tyranny is to restrict words. Why words?"

Tucker Carlson directly connects this to the gradual slide towards tyranny in modern Western societies. When discussing the dangers of unchecked technological and governmental power, including already implemented mass surveillance, he states: "Well, at that point, it's not self-government anymore. That's the definition of tyranny. So I don't think we can accept that. I think most people will accept it either out of inattentiveness or ignorance. They just don't know what's happening. But I'm going to do everything I can to wake people up to the consequences of this, which is total control, absolute control."

He points to a deeper cultural root of this ignorance: secularism and its rejection of anything that transcends the material world. "One of the prices we pay for a devoted secular society – a society that categorically rejects the possibility that anything we don't see could be real – is not only that it cuts us off from God, and therefore from eternal life... but also that it makes us stupid. Because you think you know the answer to every question, when in reality science can't answer the most basic questions."

Tucker Carlson highlights deliberate efforts that reinforce this blindness, such as long-term disinformation campaigns denying any reality outside the material world – including those concerning unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and paranormal phenomena. "That's a constant theme in disinformation campaigns... It's not about supernatural phenomena... I think there is a deliberate effort to deny reality outside of the material realm." Horrible truths, whether they concern public health disasters or power structures, often remain unaddressed, because "they are so terrible that no one can deal with them. That's their advantage. No one wants to think about these things."

Censorship of words is a classic opening move of tyranny, because language shapes reality itself, while widespread ignorance and inattentiveness – amplified by a secular worldview that rejects spirituality and makes people intellectually arrogant but blind – allows total control to be imposed without resistance. Waking people up to what is happening and openly expressing disagreement are acts of defiance. Speaking out loud about forbidden truths and rejecting the imposed materialistic ignorance become acts of resistance. According to Carlson, a society that restricts freedom of speech and cultivates ignorance about higher realities loses both its freedom and its wisdom.
