According to energy expert and long-time advisor to the Czech government, Vladimír Vlk, China is approaching environmental protection based on its own historical experiences. The country was once plagued by environmental degradation, but now the new leadership is promoting the principle of sustainable development.
“China is focusing on three key pillars: environmental protection, economic aspects, and social impacts on vulnerable groups. It's not about protection at any cost, but about a balanced approach,” said Vlk.
In contrast, the Czech Republic has not been very successful in environmental protection, according to him. “The attempts of the Social Democrats to establish a balance between the three pillars have been replaced by a group of environmental protectors who prioritize landscape protection at the expense of social impacts. This is a major problem,” added the expert.
Vlk is also critical of the European Union. “The EU is not focused on environmental protection as a whole, but only on climate protection. At the same time, it wants to maximize business opportunities in energy, agriculture, and industry,” he concluded.
