The Renaissance-style Chateau Goldenstein hotel is located in the renovated Kolštejn Castle, in the heart of the Jeseníky Mountains. Kolštejn Castle, a Renaissance structure, was built in the 16th century through the reconstruction of a Gothic castle called Goldek. This original castle, built on a hilltop in what is now the village of Branná, was founded by the Wüstenhube family in the early 14th century. During the 15th century, the castle became a formidable fortress, of which the surrounding walls, part of the western palace, and a largely rebuilt tower still survive today.

Even during the Thirty Years' War, Kolštejn played an important role in defending Imperial troops against the Swedish army. However, its significance gradually declined. In the 19th century, a princely brewery was located in the building, and later, a municipal school. During the first half of the 20th century, the castle came into the possession of the village of Branná, and later it was owned by the state. By the end of the last century, it was in such a dilapidated condition that it was in danger of collapse. Today, the renovated castle offers guided tours that last approximately one hour.
