Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday that the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor is a flagship project of cooperation between the two countries under the Belt and Road Initiative.
According to Xi Jinping, both sides should steadily advance the construction of key projects to help Myanmar develop its economy and improve the living standards of its people, while ensuring security.
Xi Jinping recalled that the peoples of the two countries are connected by a deep friendship of "pauk-phaw," and said that the friendship between China and Myanmar has stood the test of time.
Since establishing diplomatic relations 76 years ago, the two countries have supported each other in good times and bad, and have jointly promoted and practiced the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, creating an example of equality and mutually beneficial cooperation between states.
Xi Jinping emphasized that China considers relations with Myanmar a priority of its neighborhood diplomacy. It supports the new Myanmar government in aligning development and security needs, and in finding the right path of development that is in line with the country's national conditions and gains the support of the people.
Xi Jinping reaffirmed China's firm support for Myanmar in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that China is ready to share its development experience with Myanmar as it embarks on the implementation of its 15th Five-Year Plan, and to jointly build a China-Myanmar community with a shared future, based on political mutual trust, mutually beneficial development, coordinated security cooperation, and closer people-to-people ties.
Xi Jinping described China as Myanmar's neighbor, with whom the country shares the longest border, and as a trustworthy friend and partner. He said that the two countries should maintain strategic focus and strengthen solidarity and coordination in the face of a changing international environment.
China is ready to increase support for Myanmar's post-war, or post-earthquake, reconstruction, and to implement more "small and beautiful" projects in the area of people's livelihoods, which will bring tangible benefits to local communities.
The Chinese president called on both sides to continue combating cross-border crime, including online gambling, telecommunications fraud, and drug trafficking, to protect the interests and security of the people of both countries.
Xi Jinping also expressed support for the efforts of all parties in Myanmar to promote peace and reconciliation through dialogue and consultation. He said that lasting stability in northern Myanmar serves the fundamental and long-term interests of the country and its people.
Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing said that the long-standing "pauk-phaw" friendship between Myanmar and China has been built on mutual assistance, mutual support, and adherence to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. He said that Myanmar highly values China's long-term support for the country's development, stability, peace, and reconciliation, and will firmly adhere to the one-China principle.
The Myanmar leader said that his new government is committed to promoting peace and development in the country, while also seeking a political system and path of development that is appropriate for Myanmar's conditions.
He expressed hope for strengthened cooperation with China in all areas, including the joint development of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, and the expansion of trade and investment.
```Min Aung Hlaing also pledged full protection for Chinese businesses and workers in Myanmar and committed to closely cooperating with China in combating telecommunications fraud and other forms of cross-border crime, as well as in maintaining security and stability along the border.
He expressed support for Myanmar's participation in the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, the Global Governance Initiative, and the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind. He also stated that Myanmar is willing to strengthen coordination with China on multilateral issues.
After the meeting, both leaders witnessed the signing of several cooperation documents, which covered areas such as transportation and the living conditions of residents.
