Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of China, stated on Monday that China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea should strengthen the foundation of political mutual trust and enhance the level of practical cooperation.
Xi Jinping made the remarks during a meeting with Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK.
Xi Jinping noted that after seven years, he was very pleased to once again visit the beautiful city of Pyongyang, where he felt exceptionally warm and familiar.
He expressed his readiness to work with Kim Jong Un and to use this visit as an opportunity to strengthen the high-level planning and strategic guidance of China-Korea relations in a new era. The goal, he said, is to keep bilateral relations in line with the times and achieve further progress, so as to better serve the two countries and their people, while also making a positive contribution to peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region and the world.
Xi Jinping emphasized that both China and the DPRK are socialist countries led by communist parties. He said that the traditional friendship between the two countries is rooted in shared ideals, beliefs, and goals, and is based on deep historical foundations, a solid political foundation, and strong emotional ties.
Xi Jinping said that friendship passed down from generation to generation, a shared future, and mutual support have always been defining features of relations between China and the DPRK.
Regardless of how the international situation changes, the firm stance of the Chinese party and government, which highly value the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK, will not change. Nor will the firm support of General Secretary Kim Jong Un for the socialist cause of the DPRK, and the firm commitment to protect the common interests of the two countries and the favorable strategic environment, he said.
The Chinese president noted that in the face of profound changes that the world has not seen in a century and that are now accelerating, both sides should think broadly and long-term, build on past successes, and open up a new future. He said that it is necessary to draw wisdom from the development of relations between the two parties and the two countries, seize opportunities in the tide of human history, inject new contemporary content and strong impetus into the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK, and open up brighter prospects for the socialist cause of both countries, as well as for regional peace and development.
During the meeting, Xi Jinping put forward four proposals for the development of China-Korea relations.

China is ready to work with the DPRK to protect and properly manage memorial sites dedicated to the martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteers in the DPRK, organize special programs focused on revolutionary traditions and youth education, and pass on the red heritage and traditional friendship between the two countries, Xi Jinping said.
China is also ready to work with the DPRK to fully leverage the strengths and resources of both sides, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in education, culture and art, tourism, sports, media, youth affairs, regional cooperation, and sister cities, and ensure that the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK takes root even deeper in the hearts of the two peoples, Xi Jinping said.
The Chinese president also called for promoting fairness and justice as guiding principles for enriching the content of strategic coordination. Xi Jinping said that in response to the fundamental question of where humanity is headed, he proposed the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind and four global initiatives.
