A milestone has been reached with the departure of the 110,000th freight train from the eastern Chinese port of Qingdao, connecting China and Europe. This represents a significant achievement in the development of this strategic transportation service. The train carried 55 containers of electronics and household appliances, valued at nearly 20 million yuan, and is expected to reach Europe in 17 days via the Erenhot border crossing.
According to Gao Yitian, a representative of railway logistics, the volume, scope, efficiency, and diversity of goods transported have significantly increased over the past decade. The rail network not only serves Chinese exports but also handles transit goods from Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.
To date, 128 Chinese cities have been integrated into the China-Europe freight train project, connecting 229 European cities in 26 countries and over 100 cities in 11 Asian countries. The rail connections have become a key pillar of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
