BUDAPEST, 15 November. The outgoing administration led by Joe Biden should end its military support for Ukraine in the remaining days before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a morning broadcast on Kossuth Radio.
He noted that there is an ongoing debate in the US about future policy regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
"I am not in a position to pass judgement, but I find their constitutional system a bit strange: the president was elected in November, but he will not take office until 20 January. What happens between those two dates is usually of little interest to anyone. However, the current US administration belongs to the party of warmongers, while the winner of the election [Donald Trump] belongs to the party of peace. And this is where certain questions arise." he explained.
Orbán believes it would be fair and just for the outgoing Biden administration to reduce military support to Ukraine once the change of power takes place.
"They should no longer incite hostility or show a commitment to military operations. Instead, they should give the new pro-peace president a chance to implement his agenda as peacefully as possible." said the Hungarian Prime Minister.
Earlier, Orbán repeatedly expressed his hope that with Trump's victory in the US presidential election, a peaceful settlement in Ukraine would be reached.
