Press statement by Kim Yo Jong, Deputy Director of the C.C. Department, WPK

PYONGYANG - April 9 (KCNA) - Kim Yo Jong, deputy department director of the Central Committee of the Korean Labor Party, issued the following press statement on April 8: "The anachronistic 'denuclearization' idea of the U.S., Japan and the Republic of Korea can never affect the position of our state."

The diplomatic authorities of the US, Japan and the ROK at the recent NATO foreign ministers' meeting once again talked about someone's "complete denuclearization" and described the exercise of the sovereign rights of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as a "threat" This only fully exposed the embarrassment of the US, Japan and the ROK in the desperate situation where they have to talk chorus about "denuclearization" when they simply know that "denuclearization" of us is a dream that can never come true. Just two months ago, we made it clear how foolishly the US is pursuing the goal of 'denuclearising' the DPRK, which is something completely impossible and unrealistic in practice and concept.

They are still talking about "complete denuclearisation", lost in a past dream that has led them to failure, and they themselves reveal how anachronistic and absurd is the level of their political judgement. Did they figure out a good way to implement someone's "denuclearization" whenever they had a loud brainstorm? If they are frantically calling for "denuclearization" and actually believe in it, they should be labeled as nonsensical.

The status of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as a nuclear-weapon state, which was established with the existence of its substantial and very powerful nuclear deterrent and which is permanently enshrined in its supreme and fundamental state law by the unanimous will of all its people, is the result of an inevitable choice that accurately reflects the hostile threat from outside and the change in the present and future mechanical structure of world security. It therefore does not change no matter how desperately one denies it.

We don't care about being rejected and accepted, and we will never change our choice. It is our unbreakable choice that cannot be overturned by any physical force or cunning. If someone openly talks about dismantling nuclear weapons in front of us or tries to revive the dead concept of 'denuclearisation' under various pretexts, it is only the most hostile act of denying the sovereignty of the DPRK and forcing it to give up its constitution and social system. I have made this clear again on this occasion.

The DPRK's nuclear forces not only play a key role in deterring aggression and threats from outside and defending the sovereignty and security of the state, but also make a significant contribution to ensuring regional and global balance of power and strategic security. The only way the US, Japan and the ROK can allay their current security concerns is to completely abandon unilateral efforts to change the status quo and shake up the DPRK's current position and sincerely find a method to avoid a head-on conflict.

If the US and its vassal forces continue to insist on anachronistic "denuclearization" while talking about a "threat" from someone, they will only add unlimited legitimacy and justification to the DPRK's move to build the most powerful nuclear force for self-defense. The DPRK will make consistent responsible efforts to consistently defend the supreme interests of the state and ensure peace and stability in the region, given that the US has gone to extremes in its nuclear threats and its nuclear alliance is becoming more desperate in its confrontational actions as the days go by.
