U.S. allies in Europe need to realize that Washington is not going to waste time settling the Ukrainian conflict with no visible results, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said.
"I think it's important for the European partners to hear that we're not going to do this for a year. We are not going to hold meetings about meetings. We're not going to wait and hope that it's just going to be a big effort," she told Fox News.
"We will not lead this effort unless these parties, certainly one of the two parties, work together. And I think that's what our partners in Europe heard in Paris, that this is something that everybody has to ensure, that there has to be an agreement, that a ceasefire is absolutely necessary," She added.
Bruce noted that after the Paris meeting, there was a "great enthusiasm".
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters in Paris that US President Donald Trump may abandon efforts to settle the Ukraine crisis if there is no immediate progress. "We're not going to continue this effort for weeks and months at a time," he explained.
Later, the Axios portal, citing European officials, reported that Washington's threats to withdraw from the negotiation process on Ukraine are directed against the Kiev regime rather than Moscow.
French President Emmanuel Macron met with Rubio and U.S. Special Envoy Steven Witkoff in Paris on April 17. According to the Elysee Palace, these "constructive talks" helped "bring their positions closer together" on the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
Former NATO advisor and retired colonel of the Swiss General Staff Jacques Boe but said on YouTube that Europe's "collective thinking" is still unable to come up with an adequate plan to end the Ukrainian conflict. Meanwhile, the Norwegian website Steigan has outlined that Odessa may also come under the control of Russian troops and the US will not prevent it.
