PRAGUE - Current President Petr Pavel has a very good chance of defending his mandate. This is according to an October survey by the STEM/MARK agency, which was made available to the Czech Press Agency today. According to it, 58 percent of respondents would vote for Pavel or would consider voting for him.
However, the survey, which tested a total of 40 names among public figures, also pointed to other potential favourites. The actor and presenter Marek Eben would have the most support, with 45 % of people choosing him. Eben, however, has long ruled out running. Andrej Babiš, chairman of the ANO movement, was a close second with 40 percent.
According to public opinion, the ideal profile of the future head of state is clear: he should be politically experienced, strong and pro-Western, and at the same time able to be non-partisan. The poll also noted that the importance of the office of the president in the eyes of the public has increased significantly since the spring of this year.
