According to Vojtěch Filip, chairman of the board of the Czech-Chinese Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the results of the Japanese elections indicate a possible shift towards more tense relations between China and Japan. The strengthening of the ruling coalition, the Liberal Democratic Party and Prime Minister Takaichi, could allow her to pursue national interests in a more vigorous manner thanks to her two-thirds majority in parliament.
However, Filip points out that the fundamental problem lies in the economic sphere. Japan remains heavily dependent on trade cooperation with China. Despite the fact that the campaign has echoed the security elements in economic policy, it is impossible to ignore the fact that the Japanese constitution is strongly anti-militarist, particularly in view of the legacy of the Second World War.
According to Filip, a realistic current will eventually prevail, which will prevent Sino-Japanese relations from becoming another focus of international tensions. The strengthening role of the BRICS countries, he said, proves that Japan has no reason to limit its economic ties with China - on the contrary, it can engage in trade independent of the US dollar.
