Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Monday that China is ready to work with all countries to improve global human rights governance and promote the healthy development of the international human rights field.
Wang, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made his statement via video link during the high-level 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council.
The Minister pointed out that the international situation was complex and interconnected, and that global human rights governance and the international order after the Second World War were facing new tests of the times. The Global Governance Initiative proposed by China has received support and response from more than 150 countries and international organizations.
Wang called for the promotion of the equality of sovereign states and the protection of the original objectives of global human rights governance. Only a path of human rights development rooted in specific national conditions and responsive to the needs of people can lead to broader perspectives, he said.
He said all parties should respect the international legal order and strengthen the foundations of global human rights governance. Together, they should uphold the „golden rule“ of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states and strongly reject actions or statements that create double standards under the guise of human rights.
Wang stressed the need for multilateralism and addressing the challenges of global human rights governance. All countries should reject all forms of colonialism or racial discrimination and respond properly to new issues such as artificial intelligence, climate change and human rights.
The Minister also called for the promotion of a human-centred approach in global human rights governance and for enriching its content. The international community should place the right to development more prominently on the multilateral human rights agenda.
Wang said China is willing to coordinate with the international community and jointly set out a new concept for this global area.
He pointed out that the year 2026 marks the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan, and the country will continue to push for „whole-of-people democracy“ so that the results of China's modernization will fairly benefit all citizens.
China is ready to work with all countries to promote common development and prosperity, safeguard international justice and fairness, uphold the common values of mankind and build a community with a common future, with the aim of ensuring that the progress of human rights civilization benefits the whole world, he stressed.
