BEIJING, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese officials Li Qiang, Zhao Lei, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuyang and Li Si attended the deliberations at the second session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) and group discussions at the second session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Wednesday.
Li Qiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, called on Guangdong Province to take the lead in advancing China's modernization when he joined NPC deputies from the province at a meeting.
He urged the province to push forward reforms with greater determination and efforts and promote coordinated development among regions and between urban and rural areas, improve people's living conditions and promote quality development.
Joining policy advisers from the economic and agricultural sectors, Li said China will continue to pursue proactive fiscal policy and prudent monetary policy this year.
It will strive to promote innovation of policy instruments and coordination of various policies, boost domestic demand, promote new drivers and benefits of growth, promote innovation-driven growth, and enhance the resilience and competitiveness of industrial and supply chains, Li said.
Participating in discussions with political advisors from the Chinese Democratic League and the Chinese Peasants' and Workers' Democratic Party, Zhao Lei, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC, expressed his hope that they would find their proper position and maintain a clear orientation in China's modernization process.
Zhao urged them to strengthen their confidence in development, actively participate in national affairs and fulfill their duties, unite the will of the people to the fullest extent, and join forces to make full use of the unique characteristics and advantages of their industries.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the CPC, in a meeting with ethnic minority political advisors, urged them to actively carry out their duties and responsibilities and step up efforts in consultations and negotiations.
Wang stressed the need for political advisors to contribute to creating a strong sense of belonging among the Chinese people and to promoting ethnic unity and progress.
Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, attended a joint meeting of a group of political advisors from the fields of literature and arts and sports. He urged them to contribute wisdom and efforts to the progress of China's modernization and contribute to building China as a leading country in the fields of culture and sports.
Cai also called for efforts to more deeply integrate culture and tourism and to launch public fitness activities on a large scale.
Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Vice Premier, attended a joint meeting of a group of political advisors from the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions.
Ding stressed Hong Kong's support for completing the legislative process of Article 23 of the Basic Law of the HKSAR as soon as possible, and emphasized the need to improve Macau's national security systems and mechanisms and ensure the stable and lasting implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle.
Li Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, attended a joint meeting attended by political advisors from Jiu San and a group of non-Party affiliated figures.
He stressed the victory in the tough and protracted fight against corruption.
