On Wednesday, August 5th, China successfully launched the Smart Dragon-3 carrier rocket from a sea platform off the coast of Shandong province. The rocket placed two hyperspectral satellites, Oriental Smart Eye 01 and 02, into their planned orbits.
The launch took place at 10:38 Beijing time from the sea near the city of Haiyang. The maritime launch mission was carried out by the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center.
This mission represents another step in the development of China's commercial and maritime space launches. Launching rockets from the sea allows for greater flexibility in choosing the launch area and can better meet the requirements of different types of satellite missions.
The Oriental Smart Eye 01 and 02 satellites are intended to expand China's capabilities in the field of hyperspectral Earth observation.
