A spokesperson for the mainland Chinese government stated on Wednesday that the recent separatist remarks made by Taiwanese official Lai Ching-te on social media fully expose his arrogance and weakness, and that they are full of lies and hostility.

Since taking office, Lai has stubbornly maintained a separatist stance, and he represents a disruptor of the status quo and the greatest source of instability, threatening peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, according to Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, in response to a media inquiry.

According to Zhu, Lai promotes the separatist thesis of "Taiwan independence" while simultaneously attempting to disrupt exchanges and cooperation between both sides of the Taiwan Strait, which elicits strong opposition from the people of Taiwan and within the international community.

In response to another question regarding a recent survey in which more than half of the respondents expressed a lack of confidence in Lai's future performance in office, Zhu stated that Lai is gradually losing public support in Taiwan.

Relevant surveys indicate that Lai's actions over the past two years have been detrimental to the interests and well-being of the people of Taiwan. She added that the actions of Lai's administration are seriously undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and pushing Taiwan into a dangerous situation.

Zhu reiterated that there is only one China, and Taiwan is a part of it. Regardless of what Lai says or does, it will not stop the historical trend towards reunification, which, according to Beijing, is unstoppable.
