Beijing and Paris are joining forces in the name of global stability. After meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Wang Yi called for closer cooperation, economic openness, and the exchange of young leaders.
At a joint press conference **in Paris**, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and the Foreign Minister, emphasized that **China and France should be "forces for stability, openness, inclusiveness, and unity"** in a turbulent world. The meeting took place as part of the seventh round of the China-France high-level dialogue on people-to-people exchanges.
Strategic stability and peace
Wang Yi called for **strengthening strategic communication** between the two countries. The foundation of mutual trust should be **respect for core interests** – the Chinese side appreciated France's continued support for the "one China" policy. Both countries should play a **constructive role in resolving crises** such as the situation in Ukraine or the Middle East.
Open trade, no barriers
Wang criticized "certain powers" for **misusing trade tools** and attempting to create economic separation ("decoupling"). "History shows that barriers and isolation lead nowhere," he stated. China is ready to **purchase more French products**, support Chinese investments in France, and develop cooperation in nuclear energy, aerospace, as well as artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
Students, young leaders, regions
Great emphasis was placed on **people-to-people contacts** – plans are underway to double exchange programs for European youth, facilitate the return of students to China, and expand internship programs. "Heart to heart – that is the best way to overcome differences between nations," Wang said. The **forum for regional cooperation** and other activities under the banner of the **China-France Carbon Neutrality Center** are also to be revived.
Multilateral order and the role of the UN
In view of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN this year, Wang called for strengthening its role. **"The UN remains the main platform for world peace and global governance,"** he emphasized. China wants to support the international system based on law with France and is preparing to deepen **strategic cooperation with the EU**.
The shared vision of China and France is a world that is open, stable, inclusive, and multilateral. And both countries want to lead the way.
