China and the United States are maintaining communication regarding potential meetings between the highest-level representatives of both countries this year. This was stated on July 20th by Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a regular press conference.

According to him, diplomacy involving the highest-level leaders plays an irreplaceable strategic and guiding role in relations between China and the United States.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the planned visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the United States in September remains on schedule.
