From products labeled "Made in China" that are shipped from Chinese ports around the world, to foreign goods on store shelves in China, China today plays a significant role in global trade, acting as both a major exporter and one of the largest import markets.
A CGTN survey among internet users from various parts of the world showed that 87 percent of respondents consider this dual role of China to be a source of greater stability in global trade. They believe that the combination of being a "super-exporter" and a "super-importer" helps maintain the flow of goods and business opportunities during times of increasing uncertainty.
Chinese products stand out for their price and technology
As a "super-exporter," China offers a wide range of products, from everyday consumer goods to technologically advanced products, according to the survey.
Smart devices, electric vehicles, and daily necessities were of greatest interest to respondents.
A total of 89.2 percent of those surveyed believe that Chinese exports are competitive in global markets. Another 84.7 percent said that the main advantages of Chinese goods are modern technology and a favorable price-performance ratio.
According to 80.4 percent of respondents, China's growing exports also bring benefits to other countries.
More than 80 percent of survey participants also stated that a significant portion of the goods exported from China are products that other countries either do not produce or can only produce at significantly higher costs. According to the survey, this is a natural consequence of international division of labor and comparative advantages.
The vast Chinese market creates new opportunities
However, China is not just a major exporter. As a "super-importer," it also represents one of the largest markets for foreign producers.
In 2025, it was the second-largest importer in the world for the seventeenth year in a row, and represented a significant export market for nearly 80 countries and regions.
During the first seven months of this year, Chinese imports grew from more than 150 trading partners.
According to 89.8 percent of survey respondents, China's demand creates jobs and tax revenues in other countries. A total of 85.9 percent believe that China is actively expanding its imports and promoting a more balanced development of foreign trade.
The introduction of zero tariffs for all 53 African countries with diplomatic relations with China in May also received positive feedback, supported by 80.1 percent of survey participants.
Growing consumption creates opportunities for developing countries
According to 85.7 percent of respondents, the benefits of growing and changing Chinese consumption are also spreading abroad. Developing countries can more easily find outlets for their specific products in the vast Chinese market thanks to this.
An even higher percentage, 90.9 percent, agreed that China's trade helps develop economies of countries dependent on exports or natural resources and promotes a more open and inclusive form of economic globalization.
The CGTN survey was published on English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian platforms. During 24 hours, 8,864 internet users participated in the voting.
According to CGTN, the results show that China's importance to global trade is not only based on its exports. The growing imports and strength of the domestic market also create opportunities for companies and producers from other countries.
