SHANGHAI, June 7. China has conducted a special operation to enforce the law in waters east of Taiwan, according to the Xinhua news agency.
“This operation was a necessary response to the unilateral statements by Japan and the Philippines regarding the commencement of negotiations on the delimitation of the maritime boundary east of the island of Taiwan, which seriously undermines China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights,” the agency stated. The operation involved the Maritime Safety Administration of Fujian Province, the Maritime Safety Administration of Guangdong Province, the East China Sea Navigation Support Center, and the East China Sea Rescue Bureau.
The purpose of the operation is to fully exercise the authority to ensure compliance with Chinese maritime administrative law, enhance deep-water patrol capabilities, control the movement of ships in key waters, ensure the safety of maritime traffic, and protect national interests, Xinhua reported.
