China has expressed serious concern over Japan's move to deepen cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This was stated on Monday by Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He was responding to Japan's announcement that it will, for the first time, send four members of the Self-Defense Forces to NATO headquarters for security assistance and training for Ukraine in Germany.
According to Lin Jian, Japan has significantly accelerated the process of remilitarization in recent years, actively developing contacts with a military organization operating outside the region, expanding the scope of activities of its Self-Defense Forces, and building an operational system ready for combat deployment.
"In this way, Japan is trying to break free from the restrictions imposed by its constitution, domestic and international law, and the principle of exclusively defensive policy. At the same time, it is challenging the international order established after the Second World War," Lin Jian said during a regular press conference.
He added that while Japan portrays itself as a peaceful country, its specific actions are moving in the opposite direction.
The spokesperson for Chinese diplomacy also pointed to what he described as a worrying resurgence of militarism in Japan. According to him, this trend poses a threat to peace and stability in the region.
Lin Jian therefore called on the international community to closely monitor the situation and take decisive measures to maintain regional security and stability.
