On Tuesday, August 4th, China launched the 23rd group of satellites intended for its internet satellite constellation in low Earth orbit. The launch took place from the commercial spaceport in Hainan, located in Wenchang city, in the southern Chinese province of Hainan.
The Long March-8A carrier rocket lifted off at 16:52 Beijing time and successfully delivered the satellites to their planned orbit.
According to available information, this was also a validation flight of the entire system after performance upgrades to the Long March-8A rocket. These modernizations have increased its payload capacity and are intended to support future frequent launches of larger groups of satellites needed for building the constellation.
The mission represents another step in the development of China's satellite internet infrastructure. Repeated launches of larger batches of satellites will enable a gradual expansion of coverage and strengthen the capacity of China's network in low Earth orbit.
