Ivan Cinka, former chairman of the transport committee of the Central Bohemian Region for the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČM) and now a member of the Transport Committee for the Stačilo! coalition, pointed out the growing contrasts in the world. While Western countries are spending billions on armaments at the expense of living standards, China has been promoting the Global Development Initiative (GDI) for five years, which is ignored by Western mainstream media.
The initiative, announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in September 2021, is based on the principle of "shared benefits for all – leaving no one behind." Priorities include poverty reduction, food security, industrialization, innovation, the digital economy, and green development.
It has received support from 130 countries, with nearly 100 signing agreements with China. Almost 2,000 projects have been launched in developing countries, worth tens of billions of dollars, and China has pledged another 2,000 projects over the next five years – including technology sharing, digitalization, disaster warning systems, and training for hundreds of thousands of people.
Cinka called for a comparison with what the media reports daily: more weapons, sanctions, tariffs, and blocking "uncooperative" countries. He added: "No further comment is needed."
