In a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the need to further strengthen cooperation between China and Spain, especially in the areas of trade, new energy resources and the so-called smart economy. He also called for expanding exchanges in culture, education, science, research and sports.
The meeting took place during the official visit of the Spanish Prime Minister to China. Xi Jinping said the two countries should seize the current opportunities and focus on innovation to make their comprehensive strategic partnership deliver more concrete results and greater benefits to the people of both countries.
According to the Chinese President, despite the complex and volatile international environment, China and Spain have maintained a stable relationship based on strategic continuity. He identified the ability to make decisions based on common interests as an important lesson.
Xi Jinping stressed that deepening cooperation is in the interests of both nations and reflects the broader trend of the times. He said it strengthens both sides' confidence in independent development and their own path of modernisation.
The Chinese President also said that China is committed to continuing to modernise and share its development opportunities with the world through a high level of openness. This approach, he said, is intended to contribute to the stability and growth of the global economy.
In his speech he also touched upon the current international situation, which he described as unstable and marked by tensions between the rule of law and power politics. In this context, he called on China and Spain to strengthen communication, trust and cooperation and to reject a return to the „law of the jungle“ in international relations.
Pedro Sánchez said that his repeated visits to China in recent years reflect the importance Spain attaches to its relations with China. He reaffirmed his support for the one-China principle and expressed his interest in further developing cooperation in trade, investment, new energies and people-to-people contacts.
At the same time, he stressed the importance of multilateralism in today's world and rejected a return to geopolitical division or disruption of supply chains. In his view, the development of EU-China relations contributes to global stability and peace.
