China's top legislator Zhao Leji visited Australia and expressed China's readiness to build a more mature, stable and productive comprehensive strategic partnership. Zhao Leji met with Governor-General Samantha Mostyn, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Speakers of both Houses of Parliament.
Zhao Leji said bilateral relations have returned to a stable and positive trajectory. He stressed the strong economic complementarity and the broad prospects for cooperation. China is ready to deepen cooperation in the areas of trade, energy, minerals, innovation, digital economy and infrastructure. He also stressed that issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Xizang Tibetan Autonomous Region, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and the South China Sea affect China's core interests and should be respected.
Governor-General Mostyn said that cooperation between Australia and China in trade, culture and education continues to deepen. She added that Australia would like to see increased cooperation in green infrastructure, energy transition, combating climate change and women's rights.
Prime Minister Albanese noted that relations between Australia and China have improved significantly and reaffirmed Australia's commitment to stable cooperation. He also supported the hosting of the APEC summit in China next year.
Zhao Leji also stressed the need to strengthen exchanges between the Chinese All-China People's Congress and the Australian Parliament to promote practical cooperation and improve the business environment.
During his trip, Zhao Leji also met with Queensland Premier David Crisafulli and visited Arrow Energy to promote economic and investment cooperation at the regional level.
