US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the United States would take over the administration of Venezuela after the military operation that saw the detention of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who arrived at a military base in New York on Saturday.
According to analysts, this sudden military move, officially justified as an anti-drug operation, represents a shift towards direct military intervention to reshape Venezuela's political landscape.
Speaking at a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump said: „We will manage the country until we can make a safe, orderly and prudent transition,“ without providing a specific timeframe. He added that senior officials, including Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, would work with a designated team to oversee the transition period.
