The 12th World Games opened on the evening of August 7 in the city of Chenghdu, Sichuan Province.

The Chinese delegation has sent 321 athletes to the event, who will take part in 28 main disciplines and 152 sub-disciplines.The 12th World Games will be held from 7 to 17 August in Chengdu. A total of 6,679 athletes, support and technical officials from 112 countries and regions, including 3,942 athletes, participated in this year's World Games. This is the largest and most numerous World Games ever.

At the opening ceremony, a video of the speech by the President of the International Olympic Committee was shown Kirsty Coventry. Coventry said that nearly 4,000 athletes from around the world had gathered here, demonstrating the powerful influence of sport across cultural boundaries. She expressed her wish that all athletes remember the joy that sport brings them and encouraged them to enjoy their own moments.
Coventry expressed her gratitude to the Chinese government and the Chinese Olympic Committee for their support of the World Games. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chinese organisers who, as always, have demonstrated professionalism, hospitality, meticulous and perfect competition preparation and world-renowned Chinese efficiency."
