Tractors in museums of agricultural technology
The place where tractors play a major role is, for example, the exhibition "The Tractor is Going" at the National Museum of Agriculture in Prague. The showcase of twenty types of tractors of domestic and foreign brands, manufactured between 1917 and 1953, is complemented by pedal tractors and bicycles for children, the Farming Simulator computer game or the unique Zetor simulator, on which you can try driving a tractor for yourself.
The cab is equipped just like a real tractor, you can try driving around town and ploughing in the field, including shifting, braking and accelerating. For young children who can't reach all the controls, there's a children's digger right next door. As well as tractors, the National Agricultural Museum has displays on fishing, farming and hunting, and the Silence Lab with its living forest and rooftop viewing deck where you can have a picnic is also tempting.
In September 2020, a branch of the NZM in Ostrava was opened. The agricultural machinery exhibited here is divided into three basic thematic units, tractors, grain processing machines and forage processing machines. The 40 machines on display represent a cross-section of the largest collection of agricultural machinery in the Czech Republic. You will see well-known Czech brands as well as machines manufactured in the USA or the former USSR.
The Museum of Historical Technology in Čáslav offers a unique collection. Again, it belongs to the wings of the National Museum of Agriculture, which exhibits more than seventy machines from three dozen manufacturers. It is a comprehensive overview of tractors and agricultural steam engines of domestic and foreign provenance, mostly from the first half of the twentieth century.
You can also sit in one of dozens of historical tractors in the Museum of Tractors and Agricultural Technology in Chotouň, a village in the Českobrodsko region. Most of the meticulously repaired machines are still in working order and could still work in the field today. The oldest exhibit is a Praga AT tractor from 1928. You can visit the museum all year round by phone and you can also go to the Museum of Utility Technology in Mníšek pod Brdy, where they have 80 tractors. You can see more tractors at the Museum of Agricultural Machinery near Vyškov.
Entertainment for young and old can also be found in the South Bohemian Agricultural Museum. Exhibitions focusing on soil preparation, sowing, harvesting, processing of agricultural products and crafts contain interactive and playful elements. There is a children's corner with tractors, pedal tractors, a tractor simulator, a mini farm with live animals and much more.
In addition to motorbikes, bicycles, cars and hundreds of other exhibits, you can also see agricultural technology in the Veterans Museum at the Zelenohorská Post Office, the manor house of Daniel František Táborský of Hirschfeld, governor of the Zelená Hora estate in Nepomuk.
