The Prague Stock Exchange weakened on Thursday from Wednesday's new high. The PX index fell by 0.49 percent to 2,797.56 points. Most of the traded stocks ended in negative territory, but losses were limited by shares in companies such as CSG, ČEZ, Komerční banka, and VIG.
For the first time in history, a woman will lead Czech Railways. Starting September 1st, Lenka Hamplová, currently the head of the economic and infrastructure department at the Ministry of Transport, will take over as CEO of the state-owned transportation company. She is replacing Michal Krapinec, who resigned for personal reasons and will leave his position on August 31st. The supervisory board addressed the situation after Krapinec returned his security clearance to the "Confidential" level. Hamplová will receive a full contract; this is not a temporary solution.
Czech Railways will also increase railway transport capacity at the end of the summer holidays. Additional hundreds of seats will be added on selected routes, especially on lines from Moravia to Prague. The company has also allocated additional cars for operational reinforcement of services. School trains will resume operation in September.
The e-commerce group Enterstore, part of the Hartenberg holding, is acquiring an 80 percent stake in the Dutch premium brand Joe Merino, which produces sweaters without discount promotions. With this acquisition, Babiš's holding company is expanding its portfolio, which already includes brands such as Astratex and Ovečkárna. The expansion aims to strengthen the brand's position in the European market and in online sales.
UniCredit will increase the interest rate on its savings accounts to 4.3 percent starting in September, making it one of the best offers on the market. Customers who actively use their cards and allocate a portion of their funds to investments will receive the highest interest rates.
