The survey, conducted by CEEC Research in cooperation with the Union of Towns and Municipalities, revealed the current view of Czech municipalities on the issue of affordable rental housing. 530 representatives of towns and municipalities from all over the country took part in the survey. The results show that more than 70 % respondents perceive state support for the construction and repair of rental housing as necessary and are planning to use it. Only 22 % municipalities are not considering this support, while 21 % were not aware of it at all.
In early October, the State Fund for Investment Promotion (SFPI) launched a programme that allows municipalities to receive up to 25 % in subsidies for the construction, repair or purchase of housing, as well as offering a soft loan and a municipal contribution of 10 %.
"The lack of affordable housing is a problem not only in large cities, but also in smaller communities. An estimated 78 % municipalities lack sufficient municipal rental housing capacity," He told Michal Vacek, Director of CEEC Research. He also drew attention to the possibilities of cooperation between the private and public sectors in the construction of new housing.
The President of the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians Active in Construction (ČKAIT) also contributed to the calls Robert Spalek, who pointed out that long-term support for affordable housing can have a positive impact on the state budget and the sustainability of the pension system.
The survey also showed that 26 % of municipalities do not have suitable land for development, while 57 % of town representatives said they have land available. The problem of affordable housing does not only affect social cases, but also professions such as police officers, rescue workers and teachers.
