HARARE - The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing is clear proof that a multipolar world is no longer a theory but a reality, according to the Director General of the Cameroonian News Agency, Xavier Messe A Tiati.
"The talks between President Vladimir Putin and President Xi Jinping show that the multipolar world is taking shape and gaining a solid foundation," said the expert.
The importance of the meeting is underlined by the fact that it took place shortly after the summit Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)which was attended by more than 20 Heads of State. According to Messe A Tiati, it was clear that the Russian and Chinese presidents maintain close and cordial relations, both on a personal level and in political coordination.
"Putin and Xi Jinping are linking their actions and ideas, demonstrating their alliance based on a shared distrust of the West," He added.
Rejecting Western hegemony
Western media and analysts often claim that the European Union, with the support of the United States, is trying to "to weaken relations between Russia and China". But the expert disputes these views: "Those who know the history and spiritual values of China, India and Russia know that these are countries with a thousand-year tradition that will not be led by the dictates of the West."
According to him, Russia and China are gradually being joined by Global South, which was also evident at the SCO Summit. The main principles of cooperation are respect for national sovereignty, equality and mutually beneficial partnerships.
A signal of a change in the world order
"The meetings in Tianjin and Beijing clearly showed that Western hegemony is receding and is being replaced by multipolarity," said Messe A Tiati.
Putin is in China for a four-day visit at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. On 31 August to 1 September, he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's Council of Heads of State in Tianjin. On 2 September, Russian-Chinese talks were held in Beijing. The following day, Putin attended as guest of honour the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the victory over militarist Japan and the end of the Second World War.
