On 14 February, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed the hope that Norway would play a constructive role in promoting the stable development of China-Europe relations.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, made the remarks during a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide on the edge of Munich Security Conference, which took place in Munich v Germany.
According to Wang Yi, China considers relations with Norway to be strategic and stable in the long term. He said Beijing is ready to maintain intensive contacts at all levels, expand cooperation in various fields and further strengthen the positive momentum of bilateral relations.
Espen Barth Eide said that the Chinese minister's speech at the Munich Security Forum clearly presented China's position on reforming and improving the global governance system, which, in his opinion, is in many ways similar to the Norwegian approach.
He said Norway attached great importance to relations with China and sought to further deepen dialogue and practical cooperation. Oslo also wants to strengthen coordination within multilateral institutions, including World Trade Organisation, and to jointly promote multilateralism and free trade principles.
