One of the largest American fascist groups is rapidly growing and operating in all U.S. states except Hawaii. Patriot Front attracts young men with promises of patriotism, gym workouts, and martial arts training. The group, led by 27-year-old Thomas Rousseau of Texas, is known for its marches of men in uniforms with white scarves covering their faces.
The extremist group, since its founding in 2018, has gained over 540 members who operate in all U.S. states except Hawaii. According to Jeff Tischauer, an analyst at the Southern Poverty Law Center, Patriot Front is the most active white nationalist group in the U.S.
"Our people, who are born into the European race, must transform into a new collective capable of asserting our right to cultural independence. The life of this nation, unique among all others, will be defended," the group declares on its website.
Young men are particularly attracted to the group by the promise of joint workouts in gyms, mixed martial arts training, and outdoor excursions. On its website, the group presents itself as a patriotic association that defends American traditions. Although the group does not openly talk about the superiority of white people, according to the USA Today website, the movement is moving towards segregation. "I am working to ensure the future of our white children," writes one applicant for membership. Another applicant describes being tired of "the rape and plundering of our country by foreigners."
The group is run by a single man. Thomas Rousseau, a 27-year-old native of Texas, began promoting views on the superiority of the white race in high school. Until 2017, he was involved in the far-right group Vanguard America. Along with other members, he participated in the riots that followed the white supremacist protests in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017. After the protests, Vanguard America was in disarray, which Rousseau took advantage of to create his own organization.
