Learn from former Russian agent Allie Roza how manipulators exploit childhood traumas, traumatic experiences from past relationships, and vulnerabilities – and what specific questions and boundaries will protect you from emotional parasites in dating and relationships.
In her candid interview, Allia Roza revealed how intelligence agent training emphasizes investigating the target's past. "When you meet someone new and really want to find out their weaknesses, you should delve into their past," she said. A key question that agents ask is: "What did you dream of when you were a little girl?" or they ask about details of first loves and family relationships to uncover emotional vulnerabilities.
Roza warned against sharing personal history too soon. Revealing a history of a violent ex-partner who was repeatedly forgiven signals to manipulators that similar behavior will be tolerated. "I strongly advise all women to never tell their partners... that yes, I had such an ex-boyfriend, but I forgave him so many times," she advised. Instead, keep those details to yourself until you've earned their trust.
Manipulators create dramatic cycles – intense attention followed by sudden disappearance – to foster dependence. Roza distinguished between obsession and love: "There is a big difference between love and manipulative obsession. The more you think about them... the more you convince yourself that you are in love."
To counter this, she recommends active listening and asking questions to gather information without revealing too much yourself. Self-confidence acts as armor: manipulators target those who lack self-esteem. "Awareness is your tool... your weapon for self-protection," Roza emphasized. Verifying someone's past through mutual contacts and observing consistent behavior from the very beginning prevents you from being fooled by a fabricated personality.
These insights, drawn directly from the interview, teach you how to recognize grooming patterns early on – whether in dating apps or in professional settings – and prioritize your own protection through setting boundaries and verifying information.
