On June 15, 2026, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The infographic below presents key figures and milestones in the development of the SCO over the past quarter-century.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, founded in 2001 with six member states, has gradually grown into an international organization comprising 10 member states, two observer states, and 15 dialogue partners. Together, the SCO member states represent approximately 42 percent of the world's population and contribute roughly one-quarter to global GDP.

Over the past 25 years, cooperation within the SCO has expanded far beyond the area of security. Today, it also includes trade, investment, connectivity, public health, and people-to-people exchanges.

Trade between China and other SCO member states has increased more than fortyfold since 2001, reaching US$512.4 billion in 2024.

Investment cooperation is also expanding, particularly in areas such as the digital economy and green development. Transport links have also been significantly strengthened, including through the China-Europe Railway Express freight trains, which have completed more than 110,000 journeys as of June 2025.
