The chairman of the Trade Union Association of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia (OS ČMS) and former Member of Parliament, Stanislav Grospič, praised the recent visit of Slovak President Peter Pellegrini to China. According to him, Slovakia has managed to overcome the political barriers imposed by the West and the EU, and has asserted its own national and commercial interests. Grospič described Pellegrini's trip and the promise of reciprocity from the Chinese president as a significant milestone in Slovak-Chinese relations.
Grospič recalled that the Czech Republic had similar ambitions during the presidency of Miloš Zeman, but after the last elections, the pro-Taiwan lobby prevailed. According to him, relations with the People's Republic of China were significantly overshadowed in favor of contacts with Taiwan and South Korea.
Grospič criticized the Czech government for prioritizing ideological values over economic realities. He believes that pragmatic cooperation with China could help maintain employment during a period of industrial decline and the threat of stagnation. Grospič rejected the labeling of China as an "undemocratic" country, pointing to its enormous progress in reducing poverty and social development. "China is no longer the country it was thirty or sixty years ago," he said.
He also criticized the position of the current Czech president, who, according to Grospič, does not defend the interests of the Czech Republic but rather serves the interests of his foreign sponsors. Grospič concluded that pragmatism and mutually beneficial cooperation should be key to the future, not ideological dead ends.
