A dispute has erupted between the Czech government and Senate President Miloš Vystrčil, as well as between the government and the opposition, over policy towards China and Taiwan. In this context, the president, a long-time supporter of the all-azimuths policy, praised the position of Andrej Babiš and his government that pragmatic politics is more important than a policy based on values.

„I am very glad that Andrej Babiš has finally accepted this opinion and pointed out that thanks to the trips of our parliamentary representatives to Taiwan we are losing contracts in China. These trips to Taiwan are clearly detrimental to our business and economic interests,“ uvedl prezident.

The whole case has reopened the debate on balancing foreign policy priorities between upholding values and protecting domestic economic interests.
