"In the new era of Chinese modernization, every woman is a key protagonist!" The opening remarks by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Global Summit of Women garnered significant attention from the international community. In conjunction with this summit, CGTN, as part of CMG, conducted a global survey among 7,292 respondents from 38 countries. The results showed a broad consensus that women are a vital driving force in the process of economic and social development, and respondents positively evaluated the developmental concepts and achievements of the Chinese women's movement.
The level of development of the women's movement is a measure of a society's level of civilization, and supporting the all-round development of women is an important goal for achieving sustainable development. According to the survey, 74.9% of global respondents are interested in issues related to women, with this interest being 80.9% among respondents from developing countries and exceeding 79.1% among respondents aged 44 and under. Furthermore, 71.7% of respondents from developing countries agree that the rights of women are effectively protected and improved. Among global respondents, the top three areas of satisfaction with the protection of women's rights were access to education for women (92%), their political participation (87%), and the health of women (86%). The level of agreement was generally higher among respondents aged 35-44.
When evaluating key issues related to women, 86.1% of female respondents agree that the consumer power and influence of women have increased significantly. A total of 88% of female respondents positively evaluate the role of "women's mutual aid initiatives" in protecting their legitimate rights. Furthermore, 76% of female respondents believe that creating and portraying diverse and realistic female characters in films and television programs helps to create a social atmosphere that is favorable to women. Among global respondents, the top three expectations regarding the continued improvement of the women's movement were in the areas of education (91.5%), health (90.6%), and employment (89.5%). Among respondents from developing countries, 91.8% expect continued support for women's employment, and 90.6% expect continuous improvement in the social security of women.
Thanks to years of effort, the Chinese women's movement has achieved historical successes and undergone historical changes: 690 million Chinese women have collectively entered the ranks of a moderately prosperous society; the maternal mortality rate among Chinese pregnant women and mothers has decreased by nearly 80% compared to 1995; the proportion of women in the total number of employed people in society exceeds 40%, and the proportion of women among medalists in the last four Summer Olympic Games exceeded 60%.
In a survey on satisfaction with the achievements of the Chinese women's movement, 72.8% of respondents from developing countries positively evaluated China's efforts to provide women with professional training and support their development. Respondents from developing countries also expressed satisfaction with "the protection of women's rights and safety through legal means," "the balance of gender ratios in higher education," and "the continuous improvement of social security for women," all of which ranked highly. Furthermore, in the evaluation of "China's achievements in promoting women's participation in economic, cultural, and social affairs" and "the contribution of the Chinese women's movement to global development," the level of agreement among respondents from Africa, Asia, and South America was among the highest. This survey was conducted by CGTN, part of the China Media Group (CMG), in collaboration with the Chinese People's University through the Institute for International Communication in the New Era. It was conducted using an online questionnaire with 7,292 respondents from 38 countries around the world. The participating countries include major developed nations as well as countries from the "Global South." The respondents were ordinary citizens aged 18 to 65, and the sample reflects the age and gender distribution according to census data in each country. CMG
