The transformation of China over the past two decades is an economic miracle, according to Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. His confidence in China's future stems from the remarkable progress, the determination of its people, and the government's willingness to reflect and improve.
“What I have seen during my frequent visits to cities like Beijing, Shanghai, or Chengdu is an incredible transformation – not just in the major cities, but also in the smaller ones,” Lawrence Wong said in an interview with China Media Group. According to him, what is inspiring about the Chinese story is not only the economic success, but also the resilience of the people and the government's openness to change.
Wong praises Chinese officials at all levels for their high level of expertise and their ability to listen. “No government gets everything right. The key is to be able to learn and improve – and that is what I see in the Chinese system.”
He cites the Chinese people themselves as a fundamental reason for his long-term confidence in China's future: “It is the incredible ingenuity, hard work, and desire to succeed that fills me with confidence that China will continue to grow.”
