PRAGUE - Thirty years ago, when Milan Hein ceremoniously opened the Ungelt Theatre in an ancient basement near Old Town Square, his friend, the actor Miloš Kopecký, advised him: ""It would be ideal if Ungelt also had a café at street level, from which one could descend directly into the theatre." This long-held dream is now being realized. In a 14th-century building, directly above the Ungelt theatre hall, the long-awaited Ungelt Café has opened. The interior was designed by the renowned film architect Jan Vlček. His design respects the historical character of the place, while also combining the aesthetics of traditional Prague cafes with a more modern style.

The café is accessible directly from the street and is connected to the theatre, but it will not only serve Ungelt theatregoers. Thanks to its all-day operation, it will become a haven for residents of Old Town and visitors to Prague. Customers will be able to enjoy homemade pastries and selected coffee until the end of the year. Before each performance, you can visit the Ungelt Theatre's basement bar, which is open on performance days from 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM; after 6:00 PM, the club is reserved for the audience of the evening performance. In the 11th-century spaces (the original Romanesque foundations are visible in the theatre club), you'll find dozens of chairs donated by actors and other prominent figures. In addition to tea, the menu includes Jiří Langmajer's signature coffee, named 3666 after his birthdate, wine from the family winery of Michal Kubík from Velké Bílovice, and, during the pre-Christmas season, spiced mulled wine. Signed coffee bags are also available. The menu also includes traditional open-faced sandwiches, desserts, and roasted almonds. And so that theatregoers don't waste time in line during the intermission, they can order refreshments in advance, and the friendly Ungelt baristas will prepare everything and bring it directly to their table.
