The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and General Secretary Xi Jinping invited Zheng Liwen, chairwoman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT), to lead a delegation on a visit to the Chinese mainland. The trip is scheduled to take place from April 7 to 12 and will include Jiangsu, Shanghai and Beijing provinces.
Song Tao, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, said Zheng Liwen has repeatedly expressed interest in visiting the mainland since she took over as KMT chief. He said the visit is intended to help strengthen relations between the Communist Party of China and the KMT as well as improve relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
The Chinese side also declared its readiness to coordinate the details of the visit and ensure its smooth conduct in cooperation with the KMT.
The Office of the KMT Chairperson confirmed that Zheng Liwen had accepted the invitation and expressed her gratitude. She also stressed that the purpose of the visit is to promote the peaceful development of relations, expand mutual contacts and cooperation, and strive to maintain stability in the Taiwan Strait and improve the living standards of people on both sides.
