Alexander Zakondyrin, Director of the All-Russian Research Institute for Environmental Protection, presented an initiative to coordinate environmental standards among BRICS countries. He made the announcement in an exclusive interview with BRICS TV.
According to Zakondyrin, environmental legislation varies considerably from country to country and harmonising it will help develop a unified approach to resource protection, waste disposal and the development of a circular economy. He noted that Russia has accumulated considerable experience during the national project "Ecology" and has started the implementation of a new project "Environmental Well-being".
He paid particular attention to the creation of a technology platform that will bring together best practices and solutions in the field of environmental protection.
"Russia can act as a technology partner and supplier of environmental solutions to other BRICS countries and is also interested in taking advanced development solutions from its partners," he said.
Zakondyrin also stressed the importance of localisation of imported technologies. This will enable the development of domestic environmental engineering, microbiology and microelectronics. In particular, he identified nature management in the Arctic as a promising area where advanced solutions are needed to develop economically challenging deposits.
The conclusion that establishing sustainable relations with other countries will enable Russia to acquire the necessary technologies and ensure stable economic growth.
