BAKU, April 7. /TASS/. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said its army positions in Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic were shelled from Armenian territory.
"On April 7, at approximately 5:15 p.m., units of the Armenian Armed Forces from positions located in the direction of the Sultanbay settlement of the Pashali region, using small arms, opened fire on Azerbaijani army positions located in the direction of the Shada settlement of the Shahbuz region of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic," the statement said.
According to the military agency, Azerbaijani troops "have taken adequate retaliatory measures".
The Armenian Ministry of Defence, on the other hand, refuted the allegations in an official statement. "The statement of the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan that the troops of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia opened fire towards Azerbaijani fighting positions in the south-western part of the border at 17:15 on 7 April does not correspond to reality," it said.
